Itinerary (day wise)
Bali at a fuller pace: three nights in Ubud with the terraces and a day up at the Kintamani volcano view, then three on the coast with a fast-boat day to Nusa Penida's cliffs and the Kecak fire dance at Uluwatu. We keep the one active island day in the middle of the coastal stay, with an easier day either side. Best for couples, friends and families with teenagers.
Day 1Arrive Denpasar – Ubud (3 Nights)
About 38 km · 1–1.5 hours by road
Welcome to Bali. Your driver meets you outside arrivals at Ngurah Rai airport in Denpasar with a name board and drives you up to Ubud in a private air-conditioned car. The road passes the stone-carving workshops of Batubulan and the woodcarvers of Mas, and can take closer to two hours in evening traffic. Check in and rest after the flight. If you have the energy, walk along Jalan Monkey Forest and Jalan Raya Ubud, where cafes, craft shops and several Indian and pure-veg restaurants sit within a few minutes of each other. Overnight in Ubud.
- Batubulan stone-carving village
- Mas woodcarving village
- Ubud town centre

- Note: Keep your e-VOA and Bali tourist levy receipts on your phone; they may be checked on arrival.
Prafull’s tipSleep early tonight. Tomorrow you leave at 7 am, and the terraces are worth it.
No meals included today
Day 2Ubud
You reach the Tegallalang rice terraces at about 7.30 am, before the crowds, and walk the narrow paths between the green steps. Then on to Tirta Empul at Tampaksiring, the spring temple where Balinese families bathe under carved stone spouts. Lunch is on your own in town, with plenty of vegetarian choice. In the afternoon your driver drops you at Ubud Palace, the lotus pond of Pura Taman Saraswati and the Ubud Art Market. The evening is free; Balinese dance is performed at the palace most nights. Overnight in Ubud.
- Tegallalang rice terraces
- Tirta Empul temple
- Ubud Palace (Puri Saren Agung)
- Pura Taman Saraswati
- Ubud Art Market
- Note: Optional: Balinese dance at Ubud Palace, approx. IDR 100,000 per person, paid at the gate.
Prafull’s tipWear sandals with a good grip at Tegallalang. The terrace paths are narrow and often muddy.
Breakfast
Day 3Ubud – Kintamani Day Trip
A day in the highlands by private car. First Penglipuran, a traditional village of matching bamboo-roofed gateways along one neat, car-free street, about an hour from Ubud. Then up to Kintamani on the rim of the Batur caldera for lunch at a restaurant looking across to Mount Batur and its crater lake. On the way down you stop at Pura Ulun Danu Batur, one of Bali's most important temples, and at a coffee and spice garden for a free tasting. Back in Ubud by late afternoon. Overnight in Ubud.
- Penglipuran village
- Mount Batur
- Lake Batur
- Pura Ulun Danu Batur
- Coffee and spice garden
- Note: Kintamani sits at about 1,500 metres and is often misty after midday; carry a light layer.
- Note: Kopi luwak, the civet coffee, costs extra at the plantations and its farming is controversial. We suggest you skip it.
Prafull’s tipAsk for a table on the crater side at lunch, and go early. The clouds usually roll in after 1 pm.
Breakfast & Lunch
Day 4Ubud – Seminyak via Tanah Lot (3 Nights)
About 55 km · 2–2.5 hours with the temple stop
A free morning in Ubud for a last walk or a massage, and check-out around noon. Your driver heads west to the coast, about 1.5 hours, to Tanah Lot, the temple on a rock in the sea. Walk the cliff path to Pura Batu Bolong, a shrine on a natural rock arch, and down to the shore at low tide. Stay for sunset over the sea temple, then drive about 45 minutes on to your hotel in Seminyak, your base for the next three nights. Overnight in Seminyak.
- Tanah Lot temple
- Pura Batu Bolong
- Tanah Lot cliff path

- Note: Only Hindus may enter the temple shrines at Tanah Lot; visitors see them from outside.
Prafull’s tipThe best sunset spot is the cliff-top lawn above the temple, not the crowded shore. Get there 30 minutes early.
Breakfast
Day 5Seminyak – Nusa Penida Day Trip
Pick-up at about 6.30 am for the drive to Sanur harbour and a shared fast boat of about 45 minutes to Nusa Penida. A private car and driver on the island takes you to the Kelingking viewpoint and its T-rex-shaped headland, the sea arch at Broken Beach and the rock pool of Angel's Billabong. Lunch is at a simple local restaurant. You take the afternoon boat back to Sanur and are in Seminyak by about 6.30 pm. It is a long, bumpy, rewarding day. Overnight in Seminyak.
- Sanur harbour
- Kelingking Beach viewpoint
- Broken Beach (Pasih Uug)
- Angel's Billabong
- Note: Boats do not run in rough seas; if so, we move the trip to another day or swap in a different outing.
- Note: The path down to Kelingking beach is very steep and partly unrailed. We recommend the viewpoint only.
Prafull’s tipTake a motion-sickness tablet before the boat, and wear shoes you can get wet; you wade the last few steps.
Breakfast & Lunch
Day 6Seminyak – Uluwatu Excursion
A free morning after yesterday's early start. At about 2 pm your driver takes you south to the Bukit peninsula, about an hour away, for a swim at Melasti or Padang Padang beach below the limestone cliffs. Then Uluwatu Temple, perched about 70 metres above the sea, and the Kecak fire dance in the open-air amphitheatre as the sun goes down: dozens of voices chanting and no instruments. Back in Seminyak by about 8.30 pm, or stop for seafood on the sand at Jimbaran Bay. Overnight in Seminyak.
- Melasti Beach
- Padang Padang Beach
- Uluwatu Temple
- Kecak fire dance
- Jimbaran Bay

- Note: The Uluwatu monkeys snatch glasses, phones and sandals. Keep them out of reach.
- Note: Optional: seafood dinner on the beach at Jimbaran Bay, paid directly; vegetarian dishes are available.
Prafull’s tipSit high in the Kecak amphitheatre, on the side facing the sea, for both the dance and the sunset.
Breakfast
Day 7Seminyak – Departure
About 12 km · 30–45 minutes to the airport
Breakfast and a last swim. Check-out is usually at noon; ask us about a late check-out if your flight is in the evening. If you have a free hour, the shops on Jalan Kayu Aya and Seminyak Square are a few minutes from most hotels. Your driver collects you about three hours before your flight for the drive to Ngurah Rai airport, with a buffer for the heavy afternoon traffic around Kuta. Check in, clear immigration and fly home. Your holiday ends here.
- Seminyak beach
- Ngurah Rai International Airport
Prafull’s tipTraffic near the airport is heaviest in the late afternoon. Please don't ask the driver to cut it fine for shopping.

Good to know
- Apply for the e-VOA and pay the tourist levy online before you fly. Indian passports need six months' validity.
- Nusa Penida means rough island roads and many steps at the viewpoints. It is not suited to anyone with knee or back trouble.
- Temples require covered shoulders and knees, plus a sarong and sash, which are lent at the gate.
- Bali is 2.5 hours ahead of India. Vegetarian and Indian food is easy in Ubud and Seminyak; Jain meals need notice.
- Boats to Nusa Penida are calmest from April to October. In the wet season we keep a spare day for the trip where we can.
- The whole island shuts for 24 hours on Nyepi in March. We check your dates against it.
When to go
April to October. The dry season, with sunny days and calm seas. November to March is the wet season: warm, green, with short heavy showers.
