Our favourite months

Prafull's notes
- The Shimla–Manali drive is the long one, about 7–8 hours. We break it at Kullu for lunch and shawl shopping so it never feels like a slog.
- At the Golden Temple, go once at night for the palki ceremony and once before dawn. Cover your head; we pack scarves in your welcome kit.
- Rohtang Pass needs a permit with a daily cap. We apply in advance, and use the Atal Tunnel to Sissu when Rohtang is closed.

Himachal & Amritsar questions
How many days do you need for Shimla and Manali?
Five nights is comfortable: two in Shimla and three in Manali, with one long drive between them. Add Amritsar or Dharamshala with eight to nine nights.
Which airport is best for Shimla and Manali from Mumbai?
Chandigarh. Shimla is about 3.5 hours away by road and Manali about 8–9 hours. Amritsar suits trips that start at the Golden Temple.
Can we see snow in Manali?
From December to March, usually at Solang Valley and beyond the Atal Tunnel. In April–May there's snow at higher points such as Rohtang, subject to permits.
Is this trip good for families with kids?
Yes. Solang Valley's activities, toy-train rides near Shimla and short walks suit kids; we keep daily drives reasonable.
