When to go
Best time to visit Ladakh
Mid-May to September. The high passes open in late spring and close with the first heavy snow, usually in October. June to August is peak season.
Our favourite months

Prafull's notes
- Day one in Leh is for rest only. No sightseeing, plenty of water — it's the single best way to avoid altitude sickness.
- Talk to your doctor before the trip if anyone has heart, lung or blood-pressure conditions; Leh sits at about 3,500 m.
- Pangong camps are basic-comfortable at best and nights are cold even in July. We pack the warm layers list in your notes.

Ladakh questions
How many days do you need for Ladakh?
Six nights covers Leh, Nubra and Pangong with a proper rest day on arrival. Five nights works without Pangong; eight adds Turtuk and Hanle.
When is the best time to visit Ladakh?
Mid-May to September, when the high passes are open. June to August is busiest; September is quieter with clear skies.
Is Ladakh safe for senior citizens?
Many seniors travel to Ladakh comfortably, but the altitude is real. Get a doctor's clearance, rest on day one and choose our Easy journey, which skips Pangong.
Do Indians need permits for Ladakh?
Yes, for Nubra, Pangong, Turtuk and Hanle. We apply for them before you arrive; just carry your original ID.
