Itinerary (day wise)

Our gentlest Bali, private throughout: three nights in Ubud for the rice terraces, the spring temple and a cooking class, then two nights by the sea in Seminyak. We go inland first, while you are fresh for the one early start, and end on the coast, half an hour from the airport. It suits first-timers, couples, families with younger children and parents.

Day 1

Arrive Denpasar – Ubud (3 Nights)

About 38 km · 1–1.5 hours by road

Welcome to Bali. Your driver meets you outside arrivals at Ngurah Rai airport in Denpasar with a name board and drives you up to Ubud in a private air-conditioned car. The road passes the stone-carving workshops of Batubulan and the woodcarvers of Mas, and can take closer to two hours in evening traffic. Check in and rest after the flight. If you have the energy, walk along Jalan Monkey Forest and Jalan Raya Ubud, where cafes, craft shops and several Indian and pure-veg restaurants sit within a few minutes of each other. Overnight in Ubud.

  • Batubulan stone-carving village
  • Mas woodcarving village
  • Ubud town centre
  • Note: Keep your e-VOA and Bali tourist levy receipts on your phone; they may be checked on arrival.

Prafull’s tipChange only a little money at the airport. Authorised money changers in Ubud give better rates; count your notes at the counter.

No meals included today

Day 2

Ubud

You leave at about 7 am for the Tegallalang rice terraces, 20–30 minutes north of town, and walk down into the green steps before the heat and the tour buses arrive. Next is Tirta Empul at Tampaksiring, a spring temple more than a thousand years old where Balinese families bathe under carved stone spouts. After lunch at your own pace in Ubud, your driver drops you at Ubud Palace, the lotus pond of Pura Taman Saraswati and the Ubud Art Market for sarongs, baskets and silver. The evening is free. Overnight in Ubud.

  • Tegallalang rice terraces
  • Tirta Empul temple
  • Ubud Palace (Puri Saren Agung)
  • Pura Taman Saraswati
  • Ubud Art Market
  • Note: Tegallalang has uneven steps and narrow paths. Parents can enjoy the same view from the cafes along the road above.
  • Note: Optional: Balinese dance at Ubud Palace most evenings, approx. IDR 100,000 per person, paid at the gate.

Prafull’s tipTirta Empul lends sarongs at the gate. If you want to join the purification bath, carry a change of clothes and a small towel.

Breakfast

Day 3

Ubud

A slower day. Start with the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, a shaded forest of temples, mossy statues and banyan trees, home to a few hundred long-tailed macaques; allow about an hour. Late morning you join a Balinese cooking class run from a family kitchen, which usually begins with a walk through the village market to buy spices and vegetables. You cook several dishes and eat them for lunch. Vegetarian menus are easy and Jain is possible with notice. The afternoon is yours for a massage or a nap. Overnight in Ubud.

  • Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary
  • Village morning market
  • Balinese cooking class
  • Campuhan Ridge Walk (optional, early)
  • Note: The Campuhan Ridge Walk is an easy, unshaded path of about 2 km. Go before 8 am if you want to add it.
  • Note: Optional: a one-hour Balinese massage at an Ubud day spa, approx. IDR 150,000–350,000 per person.

Prafull’s tipIn the Monkey Forest, put sunglasses, earrings and water bottles in a zipped bag. The monkeys are quick and very curious.

Breakfast & Lunch

Day 4

Ubud – Seminyak via Tanah Lot (2 Nights)

About 55 km · 2–2.5 hours with the temple stop

A slow breakfast and a free morning in Ubud before you check out around noon. Your driver heads west to the coast, about 1.5 hours, to Tanah Lot, the temple on a rock in the sea. Walk the cliff path to Pura Batu Bolong, a shrine on a natural rock arch, and go down to the shore if the tide is low. Stay for sunset, when the temple becomes a silhouette against the sky, then drive about 45 minutes on to your hotel in Seminyak. Overnight in Seminyak.

  • Tanah Lot temple
  • Pura Batu Bolong
  • Tanah Lot cliff path
Sunset on the Bali coast
Sunset on the Bali coast
  • Note: Only Hindus may enter the temple shrines at Tanah Lot; visitors see them from outside.
  • Note: The cliff-top lawns are flat and easy for parents; the steps to the shore are optional.

Prafull’s tipAt low tide you can walk to the base of Tanah Lot and receive holy water from the spring. Reach the lawn 30 minutes before sunset for a good spot.

Breakfast

Day 5

Seminyak

A free day on the coast, with no car booked. Swim early, when the beach is quiet, and stay between the red-and-yellow flags because the west-coast surf can be strong. Spend the afternoon in the boutiques of Jalan Kayu Aya and Seminyak Square, or book a spa. Towards evening, walk along the sand to Pura Petitenget, a seaside temple, and watch the sunset from a beach club or simply from the beach. Metered taxis and the Grab and Gojek apps make getting around easy. Overnight in Seminyak.

  • Seminyak beach
  • Jalan Kayu Aya
  • Seminyak Square
  • Pura Petitenget
  • Note: Optional: a car and driver for the afternoon to Uluwatu Temple and the Kecak dance, on request.

Prafull’s tipPopular beach clubs fill up by 5 pm and many have a minimum spend. If a sunset daybed matters to you, tell us and we will check how to reserve one.

Breakfast

Day 6

Seminyak – Departure

About 12 km · 30–45 minutes to the airport

Breakfast and a last swim. Check-out is usually at noon; ask us about a late check-out if your flight is in the evening, or keep your bags at the hotel and enjoy the pool. Your driver collects you about three hours before your flight for the short drive to Ngurah Rai airport, allowing extra time for afternoon traffic around Kuta. At the airport, check in, clear immigration and carry home the coffee, spices and handicrafts you picked up in Ubud. Your holiday ends here.

  • Seminyak beach
  • Ngurah Rai International Airport

Prafull’s tipKeep about IDR 100,000 per person in cash for snacks and water after security; airport prices are high.

  • Parent-friendly: one early start, no drive over 2.5 hours, and the steps at Tegallalang and Tanah Lot are optional.
  • Temples need covered shoulders and knees, plus a sarong and sash, which most lend at the gate. Carry a light scarf anyway.
  • Bali is 2.5 hours ahead of India. The currency is the rupiah; cards work in hotels and restaurants, cash in markets.
  • On Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence in March, the whole island, airport included, shuts for 24 hours. We plan around it.
  • Pack light cotton clothes, a rain jacket from November to March, sandals with grip and reef-safe sunscreen.

When to go
