Itinerary (day wise)

Two of Rajasthan's best cities in four unhurried nights. Jaipur comes first for Amber Fort and the Pink City's bazaars; Udaipur's lakes and palaces close the trip at a slower pace. One long highway drive, or a short flight, joins them, so it suits parents, first-timers and anyone short of leave.

Day 1

Arrive Jaipur (2 Nights)

About 13 km from the airport · 30–40 minutes

Your driver meets you at Jaipur airport arrivals with a name board and takes you to your hotel in a private car. Check in, have lunch and rest through the afternoon heat. Around 5 pm you drive into the walled Pink City to see Hawa Mahal, its hundreds of small windows glowing in the late sun; the best view is from a rooftop café across the road. Then walk the old arcades: Johari Bazaar for jewellery, Bapu Bazaar for juttis and block-printed cotton, and the bangle shops of Tripolia. Back to the hotel for dinner. Overnight in Jaipur.

  • Note: Hawa Mahal's street front is free to see; going inside needs a ticket, which is part of Jaipur's composite monument ticket.

Prafull’s tipThe bazaars run under long arcades and you will walk more than you expect. Wear comfortable shoes and carry small notes for bargaining.

Dinner

Day 2

Jaipur

You leave around 7.30 am to reach Amber Fort at its 8 am opening, ahead of the tour coaches. A government-approved guide walks you through Suraj Pol, the Diwan-e-Aam and the mirrored Sheesh Mahal, and explains how the Kachwaha rulers lived here before Jaipur was built. A jeep can take you up the ramp from the car park if you'd rather not climb. Stop for photos at Jal Mahal on the way back. After lunch you see the City Palace, still partly the royal family's home, and Jantar Mantar next door, the stone observatory whose giant sundial still keeps time. The evening is free. Overnight in Jaipur.

  • Jal Mahal
  • City Palace
  • Jantar Mantar
  • Note: Jaipur's composite ticket covers Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Albert Hall and Nahargarh, and is valid for two days. The City Palace has its own ticket.
  • Note: For parents: Amber has ramps, uneven stone floors and some steps. We keep the visit to about two hours and skip the steepest sections.

Prafull’s tipSkip the elephant ride. Take the jeep up and spend the time you save in the Sheesh Mahal while it's still quiet.

Breakfast & Dinner

Day 3

Jaipur – Udaipur (2 Nights)

About 400 km · 6.5–7 hours by road, or a 1-hour flight

After breakfast you set off south-west on the national highway past Ajmer and through the low Aravalli hills, with a lunch stop at a clean highway restaurant around halfway. If you'd rather not spend the day in the car, we book a direct flight instead and your Udaipur driver meets you on arrival. Either way you reach Udaipur by late afternoon. Check in, freshen up and head to the jetty for a boat on Lake Pichola as the sun drops behind the hills, passing the City Palace walls, the island palace of Jag Mandir and the white Lake Palace. Overnight in Udaipur.

  • Note: The flight option costs extra and depends on that day's schedule; we quote it when you book.
  • Note: The sunset boat is popular in season, so we reserve your slot in advance.

Prafull’s tipCarry a light shawl for the boat. It gets breezy on the water once the sun has gone.

Day 4

Udaipur

You start at the City Palace when it opens at 9 am, with a local guide. It is a chain of courtyards, mirrored rooms and balconies built over four centuries by the Mewar rulers, with long views down to the lake. A short walk away is Jagdish Temple, a carved 17th-century Vishnu temple still in daily worship. After lunch and a rest, your driver takes you to Saheliyon-ki-Bari, the 'garden of the maidens', with its fountains, marble elephants and lotus pools, and along the shore of Fateh Sagar Lake. In the evening you can stroll to Gangaur Ghat or watch the folk dance show at Bagore-ki-Haveli. Overnight in Udaipur.

  • Note: Jagdish Temple sits at the top of a steep flight of steps from the road; there is no lift.

Prafull’s tipThe City Palace's inner rooms are narrow and fill with groups by 11 am. Go at opening and you'll have space to look properly.

Breakfast & Dinner

Day 5

Udaipur – Departure

About 22 km to the airport · 40–45 minutes

A slow breakfast with a view of the water. If your flight is in the afternoon, there is time for an hour in the lanes around Jagdish Temple, where small shops sell miniature paintings, silver jewellery and block-printed textiles, or a last cup of tea by the lake. Check-out is usually at noon, and we can request a late check-out from the hotel if your flight is in the evening. Your driver collects you with plenty of time and drops you at Maharana Pratap Airport in Dabok for your flight home. Your holiday ends here.

Prafull’s tipMiniature paintings vary a lot in quality. Ask to see the brushwork under a magnifier before you buy.
