Three nights in Shillong for Laitlum, Krang Suri and the sacred forest of Mawphlang, then two in Cherrapunjee and a night in Guwahati.
Day 1Arrive Guwahati – Shillong
100 km · 3 hrs
Welcome to the North East. Your driver meets you at Guwahati airport or railway station and you drive up to Shillong, the Scotland of the East, stopping at Umiam Lake at Barapani, where you can try water sports (optional). Check in, and in the evening walk through Police Bazaar, Shillong's main market.

No meals included today Overnight: Shillong
Day 2Shillong – Laitlum Canyons – Krang Suri Falls – Shillong
115 km · 4 hrs Per Way
After breakfast, drive to Laitlum Canyons for the views, then Krang Suri Falls, one of Meghalaya's loveliest, where you can swim in the natural pool or walk behind the falling water. Back to Shillong after lunch.

Breakfast Overnight: Shillong
Day 3Shillong – Mawsynram – Mawphlang Sacred Forest – Shillong
60 km · 1.5 hrs Per Way
After breakfast, visit Mawsynram, recorded as one of the rainiest places on earth and known for its caves. Then Mawphlang Sacred Grove, one of the largest sacred forests in Meghalaya, protected by the local community for centuries; by custom, nothing may be taken out of it. Visit a Khasi heritage village and, on the way back to Shillong, Elephant Falls.

Breakfast Overnight: Shillong
Day 4Shillong – Dawki – Mawlynnong – Cherrapunjee
120 km · 8 hrs
After breakfast, drive to Mawlynnong, about 90 km from Shillong, a bright, tidy village known as the cleanest in Asia, with a living root bridge and a boulder balanced on a smaller rock. Then Dawki on the Bangladesh border, where you can take a boat on the crystal-clear Umngot river (paid directly). In the evening, drive on to Cherrapunjee.

- Note: Cherrapunjee and Dawki are beautiful but simple places. Even the best hotels are like a basic 3-star, some without fans, air-conditioning or lifts, with clean rooms and bathrooms and mostly non-vegetarian food (vegetarian choices are limited).
Breakfast Overnight: Cherrapunjee
Day 5Cherrapunjee Local Sightseeing
Wake up to a Cherrapunjee morning. Visit the Eco Park, Nohkalikai Falls, the Nohsngithiang (Seven Sisters) Falls, Mawsmai Cave and Thangkharang Park. Optional: a full-day trek to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge at Nongriat village, about 3,200 steps each way, continuing to Rainbow Falls, 60 to 90 minutes beyond the bridge.

Breakfast Overnight: Cherrapunjee
Day 6Cherrapunjee – Guwahati
160 km · 5 hrs
After breakfast, drive to Guwahati and check in. Visit the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, a centre for Assam's history and culture, and the Assam Film Museum, then the GTAC tea lounge for a cup of fine Assam tea, from CTC and orthodox to green, white and purple. In the evening you can take a river cruise on the Brahmaputra (paid directly) or shop for Assam silk, golden muga silk, tea, bamboo and cane.

Breakfast Overnight: Guwahati
Day 7Guwahati, Departure
After breakfast, visit the Kamakhya Temple on Nilachal Hill (open 8 am to 1 pm and 3 pm until dusk), then transfer to Guwahati airport or railway station for your journey home.

- Note: If you leave early in the morning, we visit the Kamakhya Temple the day before instead of the Kalakshetra. An evening flight or train lets us fit in a few more sights on your last day.
