When to go
Best time to visit Gujarat
October to March. Cool, dry days for long drives and temple visits; the White Rann is at its best from November to February, and Gir reopens in mid-October. April to June is very hot, and the monsoon arrives in late June.
Our favourite months
Prafull's notes
- Gujarat is a dry state: alcohol is sold only with a permit, in a few licensed hotels.
- Distances are long. Dwarka is about 450 km from Ahmedabad, so most trips start or end in Rajkot to save a day on the road.
- Gir National Park is closed from mid-June to mid-October, and safari permits sell out early in winter.
- Nishkalank Mahadev, in the sea off Bhavnagar, can be reached only at low tide.
