When to go

Best time to visit Uttar Pradesh

October to March. Cool, dry days for temple visits and long drives. December and January bring fog on the plains, which can slow the roads and delay flights; April to June is very hot.

Prafull's notes

  • Phones, bags and cameras are not allowed inside Kashi Vishwanath or the Ram Janmabhoomi temple; there are lockers outside.
  • Vehicles can't drive into Varanasi's old city, so the ghats and Kashi Vishwanath involve some walking through narrow lanes.
  • Dev Deepavali in Varanasi (the full moon after Diwali) is spectacular but very crowded; hotels and boats sell out months ahead.
  • Fog in December and January can delay flights and trains into Varanasi and Lucknow; keep a buffer before onward connections.

Uttar Pradesh questions

How many days do you need for Varanasi and Ayodhya?

Three nights covers Varanasi, the Sangam at Prayagraj on the way, and Ayodhya. Four nights gives Prayagraj a night of its own, and five adds Bodhgaya and Gaya.

Can we see the Ganga Aarti?

Yes, every itinerary includes the evening Ganga Aarti on the ghats of Varanasi. A private motor boat to watch it from the river can be added.

Can you book special darshan at Kashi Vishwanath?

Yes. Sugam Darshan (a quicker queue) and Sparsh Darshan (for Aadhaar card holders) can be added to your booking, as can Sugam Darshan in Ayodhya.

What is the price for a large family or group?

Prices fall as the group grows, from two adults in a sedan up to eighteen in a 20-seat Tempo Traveller. Each trip page shows the price per person for every group size.

Is food included?

Yes, breakfast and dinner every day at the hotels. Lunches are on the road, wherever you like.
