When to go

Best time to visit Scandinavia

December to March. Lapland has deep snow and long dark nights for the aurora from December to March; November and April are quieter, with less certain snow. The icebreaker sails when the sea is frozen, usually January to April.

Prafull's notes

  • Pack thermal layers, a down jacket, gloves, a hat and snow boots; it is often −20°C in midwinter.
  • Northern lights need clear, dark skies; two or three trips give you the best odds.
  • Santa Claus Village is busiest in December; January and February are calmer.
  • Days are short in midwinter, with only a few hours of twilight in the far north.

From late August to early April on clear, dark nights; December to March is the classic snowy season. Our holidays include two or three aurora trips.

Is Lapland good for children?

Yes. Santa Claus Village, reindeer and husky rides and the night train are wonderful with children; ask us for children's prices.

Are the prices in rupees?

Our prices are in euros per person and are payable in rupees at the day's exchange rate; GST (5%) and TCS are added.

Are flights included?

No. Prices are land only; we quote flights from Mumbai to Helsinki and home from Lapland or Tromsø separately.

What is the Santa Claus Express?

The overnight train from Helsinki to Rovaniemi. You sleep in your own cabin and wake up in Lapland.
