When to go
Best time to visit Sri Lanka
December to April. The west and south coasts, Kandy and the hills are driest from December to April, which is also whale season off Mirissa. The east coast is best from May to September.

Prafull's notes
- At temples, cover shoulders and knees and remove shoes, hats and sunglasses; walk clockwise around stupas.
- Never pose for a photo with your back to a Buddha statue, and ask before photographing people.
- Alcohol is not sold anywhere on Poya (full-moon) days.
- In Yala, stay in the jeep and don't ask the driver to chase animals.
