Day 2Wanagiri, Handara Gate, Ulun Danu and Tanah Lot
Up into the cool highlands. Wanagiri Hidden Hills looks down over the twin lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan, with photo platforms on the ridge. Stop at Handara Gate, the stone Balinese gateway framed by forest, then Ulun Danu Beratan, the temple on Lake Beratan. Finish on the coast at Tanah Lot for the sea temple at sunset.

Day 3Nusa Penida: Kelingking, Broken Beach and Crystal Bay
A full-day trip by fast boat to the west coast of Nusa Penida. See the T-Rex-shaped cliffs of Kelingking Beach, the natural sea arch at Broken Beach, the rock pool of Angel's Billabong and the calm water of Crystal Bay. A local lunch is included. Roads on the island are rough and the viewpoints involve steps, so wear good shoes. Back to Bali and your hotel in the evening.

An early start for East Bali. Lempuyang Temple's split gate, the Gates of Heaven, frames Mount Agung on a clear morning; expect a queue for the photo. Then Tirta Gangga water palace, with its fountains and stepping stones over koi ponds, and Goa Raja, a waterfall hidden in the jungle, before the drive back.
